Musings on New York City
Aug 21, 2007
Dave and I played at a bar last night called the Village Lantern. It's one of those places where all the musicians who saunter in sing a song or two with the band. Dave has been staying with the drummer, Phil, so they gave us a whole set.

Gavin De Graw and his brother walked in, and they ended up watching most of our set. I think it's kind of funny that I live in Los Angeles, but have more celebs in the audience in NYC, but that's just me. I know him a little bit from my Just off Turner days, so I said hi. He was very gracious and ended up talking to me for a long time.

After the show, I wandered around the Village a bit looking for a piece of pizza, and even though it was raining some, I was really enjoying the city on a level I haven't before. Some of it might have been from the show (playing a good show is a great high), but I felt like New York was my city for the first time.
On Tour with Dave Yaden
Aug 20, 2007
Its been a little shy of a week on the road, and I have yet to blog. Honestly, we haven't really sat down somewhere quiet (and with a computer) until now.

Let me just say from the get go, that this tour is hands down the best tour I've ever been on. Dave is a monster player and writer, and more than that great guy to be in a car all day with. We've been having a blast the whole time, and I couldn't be happier.

Things I've learned so far on this tour:

• Perriwinkle PT Cruisers are just scrumptious.

• The Bitter End needs to get its roof patched. (on a related note, I love New York)

• It's fun to see old friends, and how they grow up, but never change.

• Driving through a monsoon in New Jersey is fun

• It's ok to have no idea what day it is, or where I am.

• People who live in a one bedroom apartment with two cats and a dog should open more widows.

• Indie rock kids know good music when they hear it.

• Cops in Connecticut don't care much about drunk drivers.

I LOVE THE ROAD!

This was a fun show. Just as we were getting ready to head over to the club, Rob and I started jamming. Next thing we knew, Rob joined me onstage for most of the show on mandolin. It pretty much rocked.

After it was over, I talked to a woman who told me "The Other Sister" really meant something to her. Total stranger. It was a cool moment, and a great compliment.

New York has been a blast. It's also convinced me that I'm definitely an Angelino. Kinda funny. I never realized HOW California I was until I came back here. Rock on.

This was a good one.

It's in the XPN building. For the Californians, XPN is a sister station to KCRW. They are like Morning Eclectic, but all day. Anyway, they moved to a new building, and opened one of the nicest venues I've ever been in.

An extra-special shout out to the gentleman who heard me talking at the airport, and came out to the show. I think his name was Clint, or Cliff. Something with a C. Sorry dude. There was a woman talking to me as I was getting on the plane, and he overheard the conversation. Then, he came out to see the show.

They let me start a little early, and I ended up playing for almost 40 minutes. The sound was great, and I got a buttload of new emails for the list.

It was great to see my old friends, and I thought the show went well.

I was honored with the gig of singing two beautiful people into their marriage.

They got married at dawn on Sanibel Island, off the gulf coast of Florida. Now, the wedding was at dawn. This required me to set my alarm for 5am, which is something I try never to do. But watching two of my friends tie the knot with the sun rising behind them on a beautiful beach was really something to see.

They exchanged rings, then I burst into song. The entire wedding party joined me in a rousing rendition of "Be My Baby."

What a gig!
